Seva is a Sanskrit word for service. When you do seva yoga, you selflessly focus on doing good for others.
At Lift, we sponsor a child through the Himalayan Children's Charity (HCC). Over the last several years, we have watched Sita transform into a much more outgoing and confident young lady. We are so honored to get to be part of her journey and watch her fulfill her dreams:
Shy thirteen-year-old Sita is in grade five. She is a brilliant student and is praised by her teachers for her continuous hard work and excellent academic performance. She lives in a hostel at the school, and visits her family during holidays. Sita says that she enjoys her school and school hostel and being with her friends everyday.
For her, the most fun part of school is being in class, learning new things from her teachers. She enjoys all the subjects and lessons that are taught in her classes and there is no subject that she dislikes. Her hobbies are to write poems, meet people, make new friends and travel. During school breaks she goes to her home and spends quality time with her younger siblings and parents. While she is at home she helps take care of her siblings, and helps her mother with cooking and cleaning, washing clothes, and fetching water.
She told us recently that while she is not sure about what career she wants to pursue after school, that when she grows up she wants to be a successful woman and take good care of her family and the people in her home village.
With your help and contribution, we can keep Sita from being trafficked and offer her a better life by educating her so she may contribute to her society. The HCC does an amazing job to help confront the problems of poverty and empower children to create their own bright futures. Click here to learn more about the HCC.
If you would like to make a contribution to Sita, please speak with any of our instructors before or after class. All proceeds from the water that we sell at the studio also go towards Sita!
