Hello Lift Friends! What a chilly month of love we have here! A good time to tuck into the mat for some hot yoga and with friends and/or family afterward (pets included)! It also a great time to introduce our yogi of the month Kreta Desai! Kreta is originally from India but actually lived in Botswana until she was twelve, then she found herself in the United States. She is a yogi, world traveler and software automation engineer who loves about software and self improvement. Be sure to introduce yourself if you see her at Lift.
Lift: Where, when, and how were you first introduced to yoga?
Kreta: I was first introduced to yoga by my grandfather who mainly practiced pranayama and meditation and encouraged me to practice yoga with my siblings using a children’s yoga DVD when I was in my early teens.
Lift: How did you come to Lift?
Kreta: I first came to Lift for a meditation workshop. It had a very positive effect on me. Kember Griffiths, the teacher of the workshop, told me that yoga is like moving meditation. That rekindled my interest in yoga and I decided to come back for yoga classes. Kember is a keeper!
Lift: What keeps you coming back to the mat?
Kreta: Yoga is really enjoyable, relaxing, and rejuvenating. The benefits extend beyond the mat. Yoga has improved my overall quality of life. I am healthier, happier and have more energy.
Lift: Are there any special things you do to prepare for a class or after a class?
Kreta: I generally come to a class as I am and leave refreshed and ready for the rest of the day if it is a class during the day, or relaxed and ready for a good night’s sleep if it is an evening class.
Lift: What pose do you find the most challenging, or do you have a goal for your own, personal practice?
Kreta: I would like to be able to do a handstand. I have seen other yogis do that and it looks like so much fun. It does!
Lift: What is something surprising that you have found about doing yoga?
Kreta: I have found that I have a lot more energy to do the things I need to do. Additionally, it has helped me eat healthier because I have become mindful about what I put in my body.
Lift: Is there a place in the world that you would LOVE to do a yoga class?
Kreta: I would love to do a yoga class outdoors in Hawaii. I’ve heard it’s absolutely beautiful there. That sounds heavenly!
Lift: Name two celebrities you'd like to have as mat neighbors and why?
Kreta: Oprah Winfrey and Angelina Jolie as they use their fame to help others and I really respect that in them.
Lift: What things, outside of the studio, would you like to recommend to our fellow Lifties?
Kreta: Going to see Atlanta Ballet perform! it’s a great way to treat yourself to a nice afternoon or evening out, and their performances are beautiful to watch.
Lift: It is so wonderful to have you in our Good Vibe Tribe Kreta. Thank you for your time! Namaste.
